The word Koronadal was derived from two Maguindanaoan words koron or kolon meaning cogon grass and nadal or datal meaning plain. In the past, the place was called Marbel which B'laan word meaning murky waters. Such names best described the placed when the City was inhabited by the natives.

Koronadal’s Vision and Mission

May 19, 2008

“A highly competitive city that sustains life”

Brief yet concise, this is our vision for the City of Koronadal. It may sound simple, yet to realize such, requires the continued concerted efforts of everyone from our city officials and workforce, to all our partners from the government and non-government agencies who are our partners in progress, and most importantly, the private sector, all of whom are called to contribute and participate dynamically for the achievement of our goal.

And as we gear for the next three years, we dare dream to make our city the best home where you and I want to live, a home that sustains and provides the basics and the best of life.

Three key words summarize all that we intend to do: To develop land and people.

Uniquely Koronadal

City of Koronadal is a fertile valley which is locked by the mountainous spines of the Roxas and Quezon Mountain Ranges that rise to 874 meters above sea level. This City situated in the northeastern part of the South Cotabato and lies in the heart of region XII in Central Mindanao.

He puts emphasis on the five major development programs, to include: development administration, economic development, social services, environmental management and infrastructure development.

In terms of Development administration, the Mayor’s message hinted that the construction of the new city hall started during his term. In the area of Economic development , he pointed out that there was a tremendous increase of about 56% in 2007 as to the total business establishment registered. He added, that a cooperative support fund was set up to provide loan assistance to qualified cooperatives at 4 % interest rate per annum as of last year. An amount of 1, 800,000.00 was appropriated on the same year as augmentation of budget amounting to 3 million.

As part of intensifying investment promotion of which culture and arts is the means and tourism is the end, he proudly declared that the Koronadal Hinugyaw dance troupe is doing its share in the realm of national and international artistic impression.
